Cats'Heuvel apartment complex in The Hague opened by Mayor Deetman

The Cats'Heuvel apartment complex on the Eisenhouwerlaan near the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague was officially opened by Mayor Deetman of The Hague on 14 July 2006. Although newly built, the complex is externally a copy of the original Catsheuvel Plaza, an Art Deco residential hotel that was built at the same location in 1928 and was demolished 75 years later. Cats'Heuvel reaches its highest point

The redevelopment of the Cats'Heuvel, with its typical Hague architecture, reached its highest point on 22 June 2005, the perfect occasion for future occupants to get a foretaste of their future home. The approximately eighty people in attendance, including the local and regional press, were received in the stylish ambiance of Brasserie Berlage, from where they took a short walk to the construction site. Hague Councilman Bruno Bruins of Traffic, Inner-City Issues and Monuments and Pieter Hendrikse, General Manager for Europe of ING Real Estate Investment Management, gave the official go-ahead for the construction, which consisted of placing a concrete roofing slab at the highest point.

Laying the foundation stone for Cats'Heuvel

On 19 March 2004, Hague Councilman Bruno Bruins of Traffic, Inner-City Issues and Monuments laid the foundation stone for the new Cats'Heuvel residential building. He was assisted by George Jautze, Managing Director of ING Real Estate Investment Management, Wim Wensing, Managing Director of ING Real Estate Dutch Residential Fund, and a helpful 5-year-old neighbourhood boy.

The event was attended by around seventy people, including interested parties and the local and regional press.

Unusual demolition

The very first construction work at Cats'Heuvel took place on 28 March 2003. Hague Councilman Bruno Bruins of Traffic, Inner-City Issues and Monuments gave the go-ahead for the demolition work together with Pieter Hendrikse, Managing Director of the ING Real Estate Dutch Residential Fund. Part of the original fencing of the old Cats'Heuvel was removed using a large crane. This 'debris' will be converted into a work of art that will be given a lovely place in the garden of the new residential building. Around seventy persons, consisting of interested parties and the local and regional press, were witness to this unique event.
